History & significance
Sri Maa Bhuvaneswari Temple is one of the most ancient and revered Temples in kerala, solely dedicated to Maa Bhuvaneswari, The Cosmic Queen Of The Universe And One Of The Ten MahaVidyas.
Origin & legacy
According to oral tradition and tantric texts, the Temple has existed for centuries, possibly even before the recorded era of modern kerala temples. It is believed that Maa Bhuvaneswari Revealed Herself in kadungallur during intense spiritual practices performed by siddhas and yogis in the region. The Temple was later formalized and consecrated by local rulers and devotees under the guidance of tantric priests.
The unique shakta traditions followed here indicate the Temple’s deep tantric roots. The Sri Chakra is installed in the Sanctum, and worship follows strict tantric vidhi along with traditional kerala temple rituals.
Divine Presence
Maa Bhuvaneswari is worshipped here as The All-Encompassing Divine Mother, Embodying The Supreme Shakti that governs all worlds (bhuvanas). The Main Idol is installed in a serene Garbhagriha, often adorned with red silk, gold ornaments, and vermilion – symbols of power and grace.
